My mom is a beauty freak. Vain maybe. She really takes care of herself and slathers any cream she can get her hands on. Give her something and after a few days she’ll rave about how it makes her skin glow. I never believed any of the products working for her because my mom is mestiza. She really has very nice complexion for as long as I can remember. She never leaves the house without her red lipstick on, had her eyelids tattooed some 15+ years ago, and never in my entire life saw her wearing “house clothes”. She always looks good even going to the market. I remember she would force me and my sister to eat papaya for breakfast. Papaya in the Philippines is way different than anywhere else in the world, I think! Ours has a lot of seeds that looks like “little eyes”, very black. Scary! It’s good for your skin, she would always say.

Fast forward to present, my mom would send me bottles of Virgin Coconut OIl whenever possible. A lot of people when they learn that I take a tbsp twice daily usually gasps. “Isn’t that oil Cindy?” Yes it is. But a good oil at that. I remember my mom made my cousin with IBS take 1 tbsp. a day and after a few days he reported that he went to the bathroom with no problem.

  1. Take 1 tbsp first thing in the morning; 1 tbsp an hour after dinner.
  2. Use as an after-shower body oil to trap in the the moisture. I usually add 1 capsule of Vitamin E (or a few drops if you’re using pure).
  3. Some would use it for cooking although I don’t use any oils at all when I cook so I have no idea how it alters the taste of food.
  4. I sometimes use it on my face. I actually don’t have a skincare regimen. Grew up using Safeguard white for my face and nothing else. No moisturizers or creams. But now I’m in my 30’s I am quite concern about my complexion. I can see one or two brown spots already.
  5. The pretty ladies in my detox spa told me it is a health food. I’m a newbie when it comes to eating natural so I guess I’m on the right track!

You can do your own research about the benefits and availability of virgin coconut oil online. Good thing in this generation is that most (almost all!) information is just a click away. As always, if you have food allergies, or if you’re skeptical about this product, read all the infos you can find. I still believe that whatever works for me doesn’t mean it will work for you. No harm in trying though.

Live life!

Just because…

Pooh

We got the package my hubby sent Simon for his 4th bday today. Included is this Pooh cellphone lanyard, for me obviously.

I think of it as a “just because” gift. Hmn. My husband can be so clueless most of the time when it comes to gift giving. Why, oh why?!

Today I woke up with a sore throat, sensing a bad cough is here to come. My colleagues near my space started doubling up  their Emergen-C fix. When one of us gets sick, others follow. Since I don’t want to use up my sick leave, I brought my medicine with me to work. It’s called  “King To Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa”. My mom said it’s the most effective cough relief, period! So I took 2 tbsps. and went to work. It is honey-based syrup with a blend of herbal ingredients:

  • Licorice root
  • Fresh ginger
  • Loquat leaf
  • Chinese bellflower root
  • Pomelo
  • Sand and ginger root
  • Five flavored seed and peppermint

As the hours passed, I can feel the phlegm starting to come out when I cough. As gross as this may sound, I’ve never seen so much phlegm compared to when I used an OTC expectorant before. It basically loosens everything and relieves so good. I just wanted to stay near the sink! You can get this from Amazon.com and other Oriental grocery store in your area for $4.99 + tax. The kiddies love this!

I’m having an allergy attack today but had to go to work. It messes me up when I have no control of myself. I am quite a strong person but when my body needed to rid of toxins, I have no choice but to let it do its thing. I have been going natural for quite some time now and am fed up with OTC medications. Some doesn’t work, some I can’t get enough of. Overall, not happy using them. So, I searched what is the best way to do a nasal drainage. I’ve come across a youtube video showing lots of details about the inside of our sinuses. Neti pot was the name of the item. Very informative! I left work early and went to Walgreens to buy it. Cost me $12.99 + tax and I got a $2 coupon off the website.  I drove straight home I was so excited to use this that I didn’t pay attention to the instructions and boy it was something! The feeling is like you’re swimming and water came in through your nose and swallowed the water and choked! So I tried again, this time I read the instructions. I can actully see mucus draining and afterwards it felt so clear! I can not say any more good things about this product but try it for yourself! It really works! I’m getting one for the kiddies too!

This is soooo hard! I am really scared of riding the roller coasters, even the ones for kiddies! So I started  watching horror movies with zombies and vampires and other scary creatures. Movies with spirits and ghosts, a little bit. I couldn’t even touch the DVD’s for crying out loud! It is just so freaking scary! I’d rather read a scary book. At least I can control how I play the whole scene in my mind. I remember my sister once took me to see the “Sixth Sense” with Bruce Willis. Really didn’t want to go but she “begged” me to. Five minutes into it, the part where there was a traffic jam, I kind of had an inkling what’s going to happen next, I stood up and told her I’m going out! She was so furious I left her! She’s still gets mad at me whenever we talk about it to this day.

I mostly hear this in my son’s preschool. Kids ask for a different flavor or color of candy and teacher will reply back “You get what you get.” It sounds a pretty direct answer for me with no room for reason. Mean?

The last time Monster Jam had a show in the Bay Area (Oakland Arena) it rained.  The boys and my hubby really wanted to watch these monster trucks for as long as I can remember. But the closest Arena is going to be in Fresno. Since hubby didn’t have to work on that Saturday, I planned on surprising them to see the show.

So I went online and purchased tickets (cost me $96.40), printed directions (2.5 hours drive one-way), prepared snacks (crackers and H20 bottles for each), packed our bags and hoping it wouldn’t rain last time. The kids kept asking where we’re going but I insisted on not telling them until we get there. So for the next two and a half hours, we were bombarded with the ever famous “are we there yet”.  We got there 2 hrs before the show and parking is already full. We got a spot and the kids were still clueless until we got to the ticket booth. There were teenagers selling flags for $5 and we got the boys 1 each ( they said cool, still no idea!).

When we got to the main entrance and they saw this huge monster truck, that’s when they started screaming! “Mommy look Blue Thunder!!! We are in MONSTER JAM!!! Thank you Mommy BEST DAY EVER!” My heart still swells up just remembering the look on their faces.

It was actually fun and very entertaining show. I suggest you give your kiddies headphones since ear plugs didn’t stay on. Very loud show.

I don’t like using this group of words when trying to make a point. I try to avoid it. Sounds like you we’re not honest in everything else that you are saying. To stress a point maybe?

I finally did it!

Been thinking for the longest time of having my small corner in this huge, no-holds-barred, sometimes complicated and not so private world online. It’s almost 1am and I am still wide awake listening to Chaka Khan’s Through the Fire. Put the kids to bed early. Hubby already snoring. Hmn. It is very seldom that I have a quiet time to myself. Inhale…..Exhale……

So, I now took the first step. Hopefully I will be able to follow through and update my page regularly in which, I know will take real effort in squeezing in time. But, I know it will be fun and exciting to share bits and pieces of whats happening to my family and loved ones. Yay!
